HeidelbergCement Georgia is the leading cement manufacturer in Georgia. It is a joint venture between HeidelbergCement AG, a German multinational building materials company, and Cement Invest BV, an investment company jointly controlled by the Georgian Co-Investment Fund and Hunnewell Partners.
Operating in the country since 2006, HeidelbergCement Georgia employs more than 1,000 people locally and supplies many major construction projects, producing over 2 million tonnes of cement a year.
Its past projects include the 214-room Biltmore Hotel Tbilisi, the Georgian capital’s tallest building and first skyscraper. HeidelbergCement Georgia also supplied concrete for “East Point City”, the biggest shopping mall in Georgia, as well as for the Agara-Ruisi E60 Highway, and the Fresco Retail Stores when they entered the Georgian market.
The company is the only clinker producer in Georgia and leads the market with three integrated cement plants, a cement grinding facility and a cement terminal on the Black Sea coast. The cement business is supported by a strong network of 15 ready-mixed concrete plants that produce more than 850,000 m 3 of concrete per year.
To date, HeidelbergCement Georgia has committed to investing more than €400 million in its production facilities. One of these projects, the modernisation of the largest integrated cement plant in Georgia, was completed in February 2019. Costing approximately US$100 million, the project at the Kaspi plant means this state-of-the-art facility has increased efficiency and output, while also adhering to the very highest environmental protection regulations of the EU.
Among many other charitable and non-business initiatives, HeidelbergCement Georgia is the proud organiser of the TbilisiMarathon, an annual charity event which sees more than 2,500 people register every year. Consisting of a half marathon, a 10km run and a kids’ run, the TbilisiMarathon is an official member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races. It’s the first in the Caucasus to hold international status, meaning winners’ results are accredited worldwide.
