Liberty Bank continues its proud tradition of supporting Georgian communities with United Nations partnership
8 May 2020
Hunnewell Partners is pleased to announce that Liberty Bank is continuing its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Hunnewell Partners, a private equity firm, has been involved with Liberty Bank since 2017.
By signing this Memorandum, Liberty Bank commits to working with the UNFPA to promote a healthy and active lifestyle in those aged 60+. It also pledges to strive for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Specific areas of cooperation include educating those aged 60+ about Covid-19 prevention, supporting the 60+ Clubs for Healthy and Active Lifestyle, and discussing future opportunities to promote gender equality, women and girls in Georgia with the UNFPA Georgia Office.
Liberty Bank is the third largest bank in Georgia, serving over 1.5 million customers and employing more than 5,000 people. It has the largest retail network in the country, with 327 fixed branches and 100 mobile branches, and has more than GEL2.8 billion in assets.
This latest commitment is by no means Liberty’s first foray into supporting the communities it serves. Its #Libertywithheart CSR programme has operated for many years and is designed to help and provide care for those who need it most.
One of its programmes aimed at helping children sees the bank fully finance the electricity and natural gas bills for small foster homes and 52 day shelters. This equates to approximately GEL500,000 throughout the year. The bank has also been providing additional support with medicines and safety equipment during the pandemic.
Liberty Bank also has a comprehensive programme supporting those aged 60+. This encompasses a huge variety of activities, from dance events, to yoga and fitness classes, and computer courses to help silver surfers learn new computer skills.
Irakli Rukhadze, Chairman of the Board of Liberty Bank and Partner at Hunnewell Partners, comments: “The team at Liberty is committed to giving back to communities across Georgia. We are the bank with the largest retail network, and distribute all pensions and social welfare payments in Georgia, so we take our responsibilities to our customers very seriously. I’m proud that the team is always looking for new ways to make a positive impact on society.”
